Fun game, found a bug though.

My last character died about the same time as the enemy did, so it did this glitch where it was acting like I both won and lost. It had the retry and continue button show up there. If I clicked continue it would just let me fight all the enemies without them attacking me.

mksfbirdup responds:

Oh interesting, thanks for the heads up.

So I wanted to see what happens if you buy levitation and try to go to the clouds. SO...I got a minstrel thief, druid and knight. Minstrel restores mana. Thief allows me to farm xp and gold quicker. Druid heals, can learn magic, and allows me to buff thief's xp farming skill. Then I just farmed like crazy until I could buy all the upgrades and level enough for it to buy levitation...

Only to get a technical error not available in demo. That's disappointing.

I get I was exploring and this is a demo but was hoping to find an easter egg or something.

Very cool sequel! One fun thing I like to do, (that has no actual bearing on gameplay other than pure silliness), is if you have peanut and you run either right or up against a wall, will holding that direction key down you hit one of the other direction keys! Now you can swing peanut around to your heart's content!

As far as actual game goes, I'm curious about all the encrypted messages but not curious enough to try to decode them. I am curious about all the weird photos after you beat the game. That was probably creepier than the game itself!

Little touches I liked:

1) Creepy faded images appearing in the background just transparent enough to mess with you.
2) Changing the look of the screen to black and white when you control the dog, and partially dark with the kid who has the messed up eye.

Things that kind of break immersion:

When the random monsters appear and chase you, they stop pursuing you after a random time. You can often leave the starting screen and turn back and they're gone. Also same thing if dog is running toward you, if you leave the screen, the dog just disappears and you have to wait a few more screens for him to come back. Either way it was fun and whatnot.

This is awesome! Such improvements from the first version I played! I did find a bug. I used an item from the hotbar while clicking another item and the item just kind of got...stuck. So heads up there.

ChalTheChalk responds:

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to look into this as soon as possible!

3rd level seems incredibly difficult. Maybe also add a way to click start the beginning of the waves. With them coming immediately as soon as you start the level you get very little time to plan or even learn what the towers do.

got to somewhere around 44 for first try. The annoying ones are the ones that sit on the border and go back and forth. It's really hard to click those. The only real source for frustration is if you spot it, try to click it but there's too many other icons nearby and it detects the others. I think you did a good job on preventing that from happening for the most part, but you just have to be accurate with it. Overall it's pretty cool.

sebulant responds:

For what it's worth, you can actually click through incorrect heads to hit the wanted one if it's hiding. Heads dancing around the edge are admittedly quite tricky though.

This game is proof that you don't have to have crazy graphics to have a game that's absolutely creepy. I think there is some real relevancy with technology as well. It's unfortunate you don't really get a lot of agency, but it adds to the creep factor as well so. I wish you could have options to try to resist, or warn people, multiple endings, that kind of thing. But it was still really interesting.

*Edit* Also I find it interesting that you named the dog "Waldo" when the boys were playing hide and seek with him.

GooseStranger responds:

Thank you for the compliment!

Waldo and hide and seek are definitely connected. Interestingly, I named the dog Waldo before making him play hide and seek.

The music seems familiar somehow but I can't place it. Is it from something?

obviously this is of course just the demo, but the idea behind this game is just brilliant. The intro at the beginning of the game implies you are actually typing out the reality changing things, which would be cool but way more difficult to actually implement, but this version is also cool actually. It did feel short, but I loved everything about the game.

CANCAT-Games responds:

I'm glad you enjoyed it! A lot of the game and the story works with implications rather than direct explanations. Im very happy to see so many people enjoying this kind of storytelling. :]

It's a vampire survivors clone on newgrounds and I didn't notice performance issues, which is impressive.

Things I liked: I was addicted to it longer than I'd care to admit. That's how you know you got the fundamentals down pat. It was fun to play.

Things that could be improved: Once you beat the boss you can keep playing, but you don't really have an incentive to do so. The addictive spell you cast kind of breaks.

If you do a Vampire Survivors type game, people will always be drawing comparisons to it, unfortunately. Applied here, in comparison V.S. has: More levels, more characters to choose from, ways to combine power ups into bigger power ups, so greater ways to customize upgrade paths, and flashier bright casino like graphics that make brain go burrr more. So those are all things that could take this to a higher level. Also multiplayer would be cool but I realize that's a TON more work to pull off.

Also, I know it's not the priority in games like this, but story/lore wise you have an interesting concept about this Vincent butler guy protecting a ghost from evil spirits. I kind of would like to know more, like maybe a page on the menu screen or a character description in character select where you can learn more about who these characters are and why they're here. Again, I get these kind of games storyline takes a backseat, but seems kind of random, butler in happy mask protecting a ghost.

Technical issues: Only real thing I saw was that you can upgrade crit rate beyond 100% which I'm assuming doesn't do anything. Maybe remove that as an option once player hits 100% crit rate?

Also, it seems some of the characters are a bit unbalanced. If you do the upgrade path right I found Winry to be more overpowered than the unlockable characters. You just have to crank up attack speed and add power ups that trigger based on times enemies are damaged, like wisps and lightning. Since her attack goes through enemies and hits multiple, it's easy to trigger those multiple times with that.

Enemy explosions on death as a powerup is potentially overpowered as well. You can wipe out a lot of enemies with a chain reaction of explosions.

Unbelievable stories, unforgettable games.
